It is official Roy JOnes Jr and Danny Green in Sydney, Australia on December 2. The contracts had been signed by both parties. The venue at the Acer Arena in Sydney, a building that was constructed for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Danny Green’s IBO Cruiserweight title will be on the line and therein lies Roy Jones’ motivation for this fight. By winning the cruiserweight title from Danny Green, Roy Jones will have won a title in every weight class from middleweight to heavyweight.
A lot of people are hardly interested in seeing Jones fight a guy that’s two fights into a comeback from a two year retirement. I think Jones made a mistake in choosing Green, because this is a fight that will mainly interest Australian fans only.
Green was an good fighter before he retired, but a lot said he is not a champion fighter even thought he briefly held the WBA light heavyweight title in 2007 after beating Stipe Drews by a 12 round decision. I actually had Drews, the champion, winning that fight by two rounds.
Jones would do much better if he would choose someone like newly crowned IBF light heavyweight champion Cloud or WBC light heavyweight.
